Overseas research experience

Dr. Prangthip Parichanon (Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology),

Center of excellence in innovation of Essential Oil and Bioactive Compounds and Graduated Ph.D. in Agro-Industry (Food Science and Technology program) at School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry, Walailak University

My name is Prangthip Parichanon, and I just graduated with a doctoral degree in Agro-Industry (Food Science and Technology) from Walailak University this year. I relocated to Italy for family reasons, and now I am studying Italian for a foreigner course at the University of Pisa in Italy. During my language studies, I also try to apply for a job in Italy as a postdoctoral researcher at the university, and I am confident that I will get a job in Italy soon.

“As my study background, I received my bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology at Mahidol University in 2011. I worked for 3 years in the food industry before continuing my postgraduate studies at Walailak University under the financial support of the Royal Golden Jubilee (Ph.D.) program under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumol Matan. The RGJ Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship program funded by the Thai government. Throughout the program, students are fully funded to pursue Ph.D. studies in Thailand, including tuition, a monthly allowance, research expenses, research conferences, and an overseas research.”

“In 2019, I got an excellent opportunity to conduct research for 9 months in the Food Packaging Laboratory (PackLAB), Department of Food, Environmental, and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Milan, under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sara Limbo. While doing the research, it can be considered an open-world vision, including the life experience of overcoming the limitations of my English language skills. Furthermore, it was a challenge in terms of both living culture and research work. Due to research work abroad, in addition to having an advisor to assist in advising on the planning of research operations, I have to do research together with professors and other researchers in the team. This was considered a very good opportunity for us to work with the people who specialize in that field, including building relationships between research teams and discovering new research to aim for the development of new knowledge in the field of food packaging.”

“Finally, to be given the opportunity to do research in Italy, I would like to thank my advisor, who is a supporter and provided assistance. In terms of academics, you recommended research sites and pushed me to get this valuable opportunity. Also, such an opportunity would not happen if the Golden Jubilee Ph.D. Program and the School of Agricultural Technology at Walailak University did not offer such great scholarships and opportunities. This was considered the best opportunity in a Ph.D. student’s life. However, I would like to remind all readers that the good opportunity that I mentioned above is unlikely to happen if we don’t have the perseverance and effort to create learning opportunities and self-development in order to discover our own potential and use it to benefit the country and our fellow humans. Thank you.”

Doing research with love
