Rosin-clove oil coatings on wood
Wood is well-known for its use in the wood furniture industry as well as in food packaging, kitchenware, and children’s toys. But major molds such as Aspergillus niger, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Cladosporium sp. are commonly found on it. Clove oil, a natural compound is a common food additive with antifungal properties. Rosin is a solid resinous material obtained naturally from pine trees and is composed of abietic and pimaric acids. Clove oil with rosin coating could become an alternative to the synthetic fungicides used for controlling mold growth.
